Lake Tahoe Elopement Photographer
Film + Digital · Alpine Lake Ceremonies · Intimate Micro Weddings
Lake Tahoe has a quality that's hard to describe until you've seen it in person. The water is so clear and so intensely blue that it doesn't look real. The Sierra Nevada rises on three sides. The air at elevation tastes different — cleaner, quieter, like the world slowed down a little.
It's the kind of place where you want to stop and just be still for a minute. Which is exactly the right energy for an elopement.
I photograph intimate ceremonies and micro weddings at Lake Tahoe for couples who want something alpine, unhurried, and genuinely beautiful — without the crowds of Yosemite or the logistics of a coast trip.
Why Lake Tahoe for Your Elopement or Micro Wedding
The lake itself is extraordinary. Crystal-clear alpine water reflecting the Sierra skyline — one of the most photographed bodies of water in North America for good reason.
Every season is beautiful. Summer brings brilliant blue water and warm mountain evenings. Fall turns the aspens gold. Winter gives you snow-covered peaks and a completely different, intimate feel. Spring wildflowers come in May and June.
It's accessible without being overwhelming. Tahoe is easier to reach than Yosemite and offers more location variety than Joshua Tree. For couples traveling from outside California, Reno-Tahoe International Airport is about 45 minutes away.
The micro wedding setting is perfect. Tahoe has a range of ceremony venues — lakefront parks, meadows, forest clearings, private properties — that work beautifully for groups of any size.
Micro Weddings - is anything under 50 guests — intimate enough that every person there actually matters to your day. Lake Tahoe is built for it: alpine lakeshore, granite peaks, and pine forest give you that big, breathtaking backdrop without needing a big guest list to fill the space. You get the full wedding-day experience — ceremony, photos, real time with the people you love — without the logistics or cost of a 150-person event.
Where We Can Elope in Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe / Emerald Bay — arguably the most iconic view in the Sierra Nevada. The bay, the island, the turquoise water.
North Shore (Kings Beach, Tahoe City) — quieter, more local, with beautiful sandy shores and mountain views.
Donner Lake — just over the pass from Truckee, smaller and more private than Tahoe proper.
Fallen Leaf Lake — a hidden gem south of the main lake. Smaller, surrounded by forest, and almost completely private.
The Tahoe Rim Trail — for couples who want to hike to their ceremony. The views from elevation looking down over the lake are something else entirely.

The logistics on the ground are genuinely simple. California has no residency or citizenship requirement for a marriage license. Your passport and your partner are all you need.

FAQ’S

It depends on the specific location. Some areas of the lake are managed by the US Forest Service, some by California State Parks, and some are on private property. The permit process varies — I'll help you navigate the right option for your vision.
-
All of them, honestly. Summer (July–August) is classic and warm. Fall (September–October) has golden aspen trees and fewer crowds. Winter elopements in the snow are deeply romantic. Spring (May–June) is quieter and beautiful once the snow melts.

Yes! Private boat ceremonies are possible on Lake Tahoe with the right planning. Let me know if that's your vision and I'll connect you with the right vendors.

Yes — I have trusted recommendations for both in the Lake Tahoe and Sierra region. Just ask when you inquire and I'll connect you with the right people.
